*DOROTHY LEE EWING
CHILDREN of *GRAYDON LEON PERSING and *DOROTHY LEE EWING
To quote my Uncle Vernon T. Ewing, "Dorothy Lee Ewing youngest of the children of Herschel and Nannie Ewing and the darling of the family was born 12 May 1924 on the farm about 5 miles east of Bowie, Texas." Most of Dorothy's brothers and sisters were much older than she, and she WAS "the darling of the family." The story that is told of her somewhat illustrates this fact: Dorothy wanted a doll very much for Christmas. Money was tight in that family, and no one could promise that she would get her wish. However, each brother and sister scrimped and saved to be sure that she would not be disappointed. As a result, she received a whole family of dolls! Even she admits to having been "a little spoiled."
My mother met my father in Coyle, Oklahoma. Graydon had just joined the Navy when they married and was based at the Naval Station in Norman, Oklahoma. After his service was concluded, they lived for a short time in Oklahoma City, then moved to Del City, OK. Graydon retired from Tinker AFB after many years of government service, and Dorothy worked in the insurance and banking fields. Theirs has been a loving and long marriage, certainly an example to me.
